PPE Checkpoint

Edge-based PPE verification at the point of entry

Automatically check for required visible PPE as workers and visitors enter controlled industrial areas. Provide an immediate local warning, create an event or connect with site systems when required PPE appears to be missing.

Local processing · Configurable PPE rules · No facial recognition required

CHECK PPE

One or more items need checking.

Clear status text accompanies every signal; the decision never relies on colour alone.

A second set of eyes

Catch the easy-to-miss issue before it becomes an operational issue.

PPE Checkpoint provides a consistent visual check without requiring someone to continuously monitor a camera or doorway. It can give local feedback, trigger a beacon or audible alert, record the entrance and result, and send an event to another system.

How it works

From camera to immediate response

01

Observe

A camera covers the designated approach with a clear view of the PPE being checked.

02

Detect locally

An NVIDIA Jetson edge computer runs computer-vision models on site.

03

Apply site rules

Each entrance can use PPE rules configured for that operating area.

04

Respond

A light, prompt, event, notification or integration output follows the configured result.

Built for controlled industrial entrances

Marine terminals

Worker, contractor and visitor entrances into active terminal areas.

Warehouses

PPE verification between pedestrian areas and operating floors.

Construction sites

Entrance checks before workers proceed onto an active site.

Manufacturing

PPE checks at production-floor access points.

Industrial yards

Consistent entry checks for employees, contractors and visitors.

Hardware, camera placement and detection rules are configured for the actual operating environment rather than assuming one setup works everywhere.

Privacy-conscious by design

A PPE check does not need to identify a person.

Video analysis occurs locally, without facial recognition or biometric identification. Network, retention and privacy requirements are established before deployment.

  • No image retention — keep only an anonymous event count
  • Exception-only snapshots when configured PPE is not detected
  • Short, agreed retention periods
  • On-premise event data where required

Configured for your entrance

Every entrance is different. During commissioning, NorthSignal configures camera placement, PPE rules, lighting conditions and alert behaviour for the actual operating environment.

New deployments begin in advisory mode so detection performance can be validated before any access-control integration is enabled.

The system is validated in the real operating environment, then refined as needed for the site’s PPE requirements and pedestrian flow.

PPE Checkpoint FAQ

What can the system detect?

Detection rules depend on the PPE, camera view and environment. High-visibility apparel and hard hats are well suited when the camera has a clear view. Additional requirements can be evaluated during commissioning.

How is the system validated?

Performance is evaluated during commissioning using the actual entrance, camera angle, PPE styles, lighting conditions and normal pedestrian flow.

Does it require internet access?

Not for the core PPE decision. Detection can run locally. Connectivity may be used for remote alerts, dashboards, health monitoring or integrations when required.

Does it recognize employees?

It does not need to. PPE Checkpoint can operate without facial recognition or identifying the person being checked.

Can it control a turnstile or access gate?

Access-control integration can be evaluated after the detection system has been validated in the actual operating environment. New deployments begin in advisory mode during commissioning so performance can be confirmed before the system is connected to a critical access-control process.

Deploy where PPE matters

Check visible PPE at the point of entry, validate performance during commissioning, and expand the system as operational requirements grow.
